dumb nerd
You've reached the personal site of nobody special. I'm another one of the
millions of netizens there are in the world. But more specifically, I'm a
programmer, blogger, digital/civil rights and social reform advocate, gamer,
and GNU/Linux and Internet Enthusiast. My global username/alias is
'tolbiac110', which I pin to my work. I make programs and scripts for fun and
usefulness, write about issues, events and ideas, advocate for reform that
benefits hackers, the people and a just democracy, play video games,
participate in conversations and hang out with people online.
This website is a static, centralized index of information on myself, my opinons and
my work. I dedicate my WordPress blog to formal publications and informal commentary,
share things and ramble about non-sense on Twitter, and host my code on GitLab. You
can contact me via Email or Twitter if you have any questions, requests or whatever.
A list of selected publications can be found here,
personal and noteworthy information on myself can be found here,
and the list of specifications of my electronics can found here.
Some Things I Wrote
Noteworthy information on myself
- I'm a guy on the Internet.
- My username doesn't mean a whole lot in particular. I derived
the name Tolbiac from the Medieval Battle of Tolbiac between the Franks
and the Alamanni, a sort of nod to my liking of History. The ending
digits '110', is meant to represent binary and therefore computers and
programming.
- The avatar I use for pretty much everything is the Gman from Half-life.
- For most of my time, I am in my room programming, writing,
gaming, hanging out on imageboards, forums and IRC channels, and
procrastinating. When I'm not doing that, I'm most likely at a book
store, coffee shop or taking a walk somewhere. Less common than that,
I'm doing something that people with a life would do.
- I write programs mostly in Python, Bash, C, and C++, and I
sometimes work on webpages. I code as a hobby, and not in the
professional sense; its something I've come to enjoy and might make a
career out of, should I improve my skills. I like programming at my own
leisure where it might be useful to someone else or benefit a community.
- I am a GNU/Linux user, which is my main Operating System. Specs
- I love the Free/Libre and Open Source community for its firm
stance on professional computing, software users' and developers'
freedom and the idea of a Community-developed and maintained Operating
System and software. I've admired Unix-like operating systems most of my
life, and I do my best to use them exclusively. I dislike Microsoft and Apple as companies
because of their malicious practices against their customers
through proprietary software, but I like Windows 7 for its hackability and for gaming, of course.
- The genres of books I normally read are Classical, Medieval
and 18th and 19th century Literature and Intellectual works, historical
fiction and realistic fiction. They're generes I found the most
interesting and stimulating. There are newer books that I
like, but I don't read a whole lot of contemporary ones, but I don't
think literature should be judged on when it was made; if its a good
book, its a good book.
- I used to write short stories and essays, but these days I
pretty much never write anything other than articles and blog posts on
different things. I may pick up writing again in the future, and if I
did, I'd like to create a decent little series on something and release
it freely online.
- I have a lifelong love of PC Gaming, my favorite titles
include The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim), Counter-Strike, Half-Life,
Deus Ex, The Fallout series, Rise of Nations, Age of Empires, and more recently Insurgency
and Verdun. Bethesda Game Studios and Valve are some of my favorite
developers, although I don't take part in the war over who makes better
games. You can probably easily find me on steam, but contact me if you
want the link.
- For Politics, I've developed a set of leftist and moderate
Socio-Political stances over the years, stemming from issues concerning
the Internet and Digital and Individual rights. I don't prefer any
Political Party, I'm a Left-leaning, Social Liberal and I sympathize or
align with Left-Libertarianism (Libertarian Socialism, Social Anarchism,
Anarcho-Syndicalism), Egalitarianism and Direct Democracy. I fully
support individual rights (Free speech, Privacy, Personal propoerty,
LGBT rights, digital rights, etc.), Social and Economic equality and
rational social justice and reform when it is needed. Specific overview of my Politics
- Favorite Music: My main favorite genre is Electronica, and my
favorite subgenres are Hardstyle, Hardcore, Drum n' Bass, Progressive
House, Acid House, Trance, Ambient and CyberPunk-themed Music. My other favorite
non-techno genres are Alternative Rock, Soft Rock, Hard Rock,
Alternative Hip-Hop, Trip hop, some experimental music, video game
soundtracks and a few Classical Pieces. I like a lot of music by a lot
of different artists, so its hard to list them all, but a few I can
name are Coldplay, The Fray, Gorillaz, OneRepublic, Smashing Pumpkins,
Rage Against The Machine, Wasted Penguinz, Headhunterz, Noisecontrollers,
Drokz, Hellsystem, Hellfish, MitiS, Blackmill, Pendulum, Basshunter, Deadmau5,
Jeremy Soule, Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi.
- Favorite Movies: Mostly Drama, Crime-Drama, CyberPunk,
Thrillers, and Historical Dramas. Some of my favorites are Taxi
Driver, The Godfather Trilogy, The Insider, All the President's Men,
The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, The Matrix, The Social Network,
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (David Fincher), Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction,
Jackie Brown, Akira, Children of Men, Blade Runner, and many others. (I'm a film Nerd)
- Favorite TV shows: I don't watch TV anymore like I used to,
but I still appreciate older shows from when the medium was alive and
well. Favorite genres are Drama, Suspense, Sitcom and Anime. My all-time
favorite show might be House, but my other favorites are Criminal
Minds, Futurama, Family Guy, Samurai Jack, Samurai Champloo, Inuyasha, Serial
Experiments Lain and Cowboy Bebop.
